FAQ

Q: What areas do you service?

A: We currently offer our disinfection services in the Greater Montreal Area

Q: What can I expected during my scheduled appointment?

A: The disinfection process should be relatively quick. The technician will place the unit in specific locations for optimal disinfection and will advise you when it will be safe to return into the premises or room being disinfected. Depending on the size of the area, the visit can be as quick as 30 minutes.

Q: What should I do to prepare for my visit?

A: You will need to perform a light cleaning and clear away anything sitting on any surfaces such as laptops, books, magazines, cellular phones, plants, pets, etc. The UV light cannot penetrate objects or surfaces. Therefore, it is important to understand that the light cannot disinfect what it cannot see.

Q: Is UV-C light safe?

A: While UV-C light is extremely safe on inanimate objects that we we will be disinfecting, people, pets and plants cannot be in the room while the lamp is operating. Once the service is completed, it is safe to go back into the room immediately thereafter.

Q: How will HygieUV safeguard humans and pets from exposure?

A: Our state of the art disinfection units are equipped with multiple motion sensors that turn the lamps off if motion is detected thereby ensuring maximum safety.

Q: How long does the service take?

A: The duration is dependent on square footage and the number of times the lamp needs to be displaced. In normal circumstances, a room is disinfected within 10 to 15 minutes. You can regain access to the area immediately after the service is completed.

Q: Is UV-C light safe on food?

A: Yes, in fact UV-C light is used to decontaminate food.

Q: What is a pathogen?

A: A Pathogen is an organism that can produce a disease when entering the body, such as germs, viruses and bacteria.

Q: What pathogens does UV-C eliminate?

A: The non-exhaustive list includes: C.Difficile, Ebola, Influenza A, Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) Covid-19, Smallpox, E.Coli, Staphilicoccus epidermis, Salmonella, Listeria monocytogenes, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1), Mycobacterium tuberculosis, etc. If you would like to inquire on other viruses you would like to eradicate, please call or e-mail us for further information.

Q: Which pathogens have the potential of triggering an epidemic?

A: They include novel coronaviruses, Ebola, Influenza, West Nile Virus, MERS and E.coli  amongst others.

Q: Does UV-C light kill pathogens?

A: UV-C light destroys their DNA and takes away their ability to function or reproduce. By rendering them sterile, they will essentially be eliminated.

Q: Can UV-C light prevent diseases and illnesses?

A: By exposing pathogens to UV-C light, you eliminate exposure to any viruses and bacteria that can infect and multiply inside the body thereby reducing the likelihood that a person can become infected by viruses and bacteria that would have been present in a physical space.

Q: What are the benefits of UV-C disinfection versus chemical disinfection?

A: Chemical disinfection is done with highly corrosive, flammable and toxic liquids that remain in physical spaces hours and at times days after the disinfection has occurred. UV-C light is quick, non-toxic and any space can be accessed immediately after the disinfection has occurred.

Q: How is UV-C light the more ecologically friendly approach to disinfection?

A: This type of disinfection relies solely on the light emitted by the lamps therefore only requiring electricity. Unlike other disinfection methods, it does not require the production, packaging, transportation and discarding of containers used for chemical disinfection.

Q: How can Covid-19 spread?

A: One way is by being in close proximity to someone infected with the virus and breathing in their respiratory droplets. Another very common way is by touching a surface that has been contaminated by a person's infected respiratory droplets, then touching your nose, mouth or face.
